Parenting is supposed to be a joy, but many times circumstances create dark times for families. Pathlight Counseling is here to shine a light for struggling families. Parents need support when their children have exceptional needs. Children with exceptional needs also deserve support. Pathlight Counseling will offer therapy services to children, families and teens who are dealing with unique circumstances in order to improve family functioning, school functioning, and overall well-being. There are many paths through life’s challenges, and we can light the way when you’re lost in the dark. COUNSELING SERVICES PROVIDED: PARENTS: psychoeducation on child development, appropriate development/red flags, behavior and discipline coaching, and support for the challenges of raising children in general, and specifically, especially, to raising children with ongoing special needs. CHILDREN: play-based therapy to aid in changing behaviors, develop coping skills, decrease anxiety and increase self-esteem; counseling to address a chronic illness, learning disability . TEENS: Counseling provided for teens coping with a disability or with adjustment issues. EDUCATIONAL SERVICES PROVIDED: 504 and IEP CONSULTING: Will work with parents and students to review the special education process and the child’s current 504 Plan or IEP to determine appropriate requests for changes. COLLEGE-BOUND TEENS: College planning services are provided for students in high school, including students with disabilities. College list-making, financial aid information, organizing deadlines, and help with essays will be offered. Rates for college consulting differ from hourly counseling rates.
